Common on grassy slopes, meadows, in canyons, and in patches of exposed soil. These generally grow as a grouping or large clump of stems, each with an attractive, fairly large yellow flower or two (as well as buds) at the tips. The flowers have variable numbers and shapes of petals. Leaves are shaped somewhat like a spade, and have several visible veins. The stems and leaves are slightly hairy. They prefer full sun and moderate moisture. Similar flower to commercially-bred sunflowers and wild sunflowers, but smaller and with a yellowish center.
