Extremely common. Grows in a variety of habitats, especially clumps on dry slopes, openings in the forest and in meadows. Flowers have 5 petals and usually have light reddish or purple veins running down them. Flowers vary in color from near-white to purple, but most commonly in various shades of light pink. Plants often have many hairy stems and lightly hairy leaves. Buds often point downwards. Leaves have a unique shape (called ¨palmately lobed¨, divided into 5 parts sort of like a hand).
