Bush-like clusters of woody stems ending in clusters of small, upright flowers without obvious petals. Very thin, linear, powdery bluish leaves, which along with the stem have a thin covering of feltlike hairs. Alternate leaf arrangement, simple leaf type (leaf is not divided into multiple parts) and each leaf has a single thin vein running down the middle. The flowers have a strong, odd (bad, to some) fragrance and attract many late-season pollinators. Fluffy clusters of seeds stick onto the branches through winter. Grows in open, very dry, sunny conditions. Also used very commonly in landscaping, where it tends to grow much larger than in the wild.
