Very small, linear leaves that cling along the stems. When each stalk is not flowering, the leaves all cluster around the top of the stem in a ¨rosette¨ sort of shape. Each plant has a cluster of one or two to many flower stalks, which are fairly tall. Coming off the sides and tips of these stalks, which sometimes droop slightly downwards, are pointy dark blue flower buds and flowers. Each flower is a striking sky blue often with faint dark blue veins running down the petals, white stamens and a yellowish green center. Each petal is shaped like a guitar pick, and easily detach from the plant. Flax only tends to bloom in the mornings or in especially cool or cloudy conditions (though it only blooms in spring/summer), with the petals falling off once it gets too warm. Unfortunately, this also means tlax is impossible to pick and dry or put into a vase without the petals falling off. Prefers dry slopes, roadsides, and open gaps in pine forests. Unique rounded seedheads, which are shaped a bit like a wheel of cheese(?). Sometimes used in landscaping.
